Looks like either the libscg is screwed up as you have it installed, or the cd writer is starting to answer inquiries on all selects on the scsi bus. I assume cdrecord probably would be pissed off is it was having its scsi packets scattered all over the place, rather than to the cd writer. jorg may have to see this

The cd-rom needs to be connected as a slave on the primary ide. Since i had it connected as master on secondary ide, it was not working. When i changed them around, it didn't cause any problems. Rite now it's installing the solaris software, so i have yet to find out if everything went fine or not.

Help! Solaris 8 x86 Install/CD-ROM Problem
So either go SCSI, or try another IDE CD-ROM. One that's on the HCL. Well, I have a SCSI cdrom, and I installed Solaris X86 with it using DU6. After reboot, my cdrom drive was not availiable. It does not mount it as it should according to what I know about vold and auto mounting. I then tried mounting it manually,

I'm not sure if this is relevant but the following problem occurs at the same point in the installation. The CD then pops out on its caddy and the following message appears: 'Change your Cd-Rom! Please insert the Cd-Rom labelled "Extension CD (x86)" in your drive and press Ok when done. If you don't have it,

As an example of the problem, take this code which exhibits it for x86 systems at least. It does 360.0 + -0.000000000001, which turns out to still be 360.0 due to the precision The values are a == 360, b == -1e-12, c == 360 FLT_EPSILON = 1.19209e-07, b/a = -2.77778e-15 The values are ad == 360, bd == -1e-12, cd

When I used to have Linux installed, I had a problem that when I put a cd in my SCSI reader, the machine would reset immediately. The U5 companion CD goes throught the install motions, but in the end the status of any(?) package is "not installed" and details gives a "Failed" status with a reference to a log file that doesn't exist. Thought it might be a funky burn of the CD so I tried my old (previously working) U2 companion - same problem.
